Graveyard Slumbers

Graveyard Slumbers
Brick— by Brick—
I build my Tomb
Seeking Life in solitude
I shut out the sun—
Shut out the moon—
I barricade the door to my room

I make my bed in a Mausoleum
To Rest In Peace
Away from the world’s traffic—
Embalming my static heart
My bedroom is Furnished with
Dust—
Cobwebs—
I slumber
For Eternity
Finally alone
Finally free
Achieving relief in my Dreams
******
This is a poem that I wrote for my English class. We were tasked with writing a poem emulating either Emily Dickinson or Walt Whitman, and I chose to write in Dickinson’s style.
